About Treblehook Gear
My 14 year-old son, Albert, and I were trout fishing in Louisiana when the concept of the HatBightTM was conceived. While we were riding in the boat, I saw Albert run his sunglasses strap through the fastener at the back of his cap. While everyone else had their caps in their hands or crammed somewhere out of the wind, Albert faced ahead, sun protected and worry-free. If his cap were to blow off, the sunglasses strap would retain it.
I thought this was genius. On the way back to our home in Alabama we discussed ideas for building this capability into a cap. We figured it would be useful for not just fishermen, but snow skiers, sailors, and anybody worried about their hat blowing off.
We decided to patent the idea and see if Albert could sell the caps and make money for college. After nearly a year of figuring things out we obtained the necessary patents and trademarks and found a manufacturer that could implement our concept. The caps turned out to be even more practical than I had imagined. The HatbightTM system turns the cap and sunglasses into a single unit. Even if you are not in the wind, if you have to take your cap off (going into a restaurant, national anthem, etc.) the way the cap’s connected to the sunglasses strap allows it to hang at your back (versus shoving it into the back of your pants or however you want to hold it). Additionally, the HatBightTM does not look or feel obvious or awkward – it feels like it should be there. And it makes one think, “why wouldn’t every cap have this?”
It’s so simple. So practical. So effective.
Now, thanks to Albert’s idea, I don’t like to wear a cap without the HatBightTM. It feels like I’m wearing pants without pockets. And Albert is earning some college money and learning about running a business. Thank you for supporting him.
